Senior Tax Manager

Smith, Schafer and Associates, Ltd., a multi-office accounting and consulting firm, is seeking a Senior Tax Manager to join our Edina, Minn. team.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Masters of Accountancy preferred
  • 8+ years current experience with a public accounting firm working with business and individual clients
  • Solid understanding of S-corp, partnership and individual tax
  • Experience with compilation and reviews
  • Experience in managing engagements and workflow
  • 3+ years of supervisory experience
  • Demonstrated ability to convert opportunities for additional service and new business into engagements for the firm
  • Strong technical, analytical and organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proficient in ProSystems Tax and Engagement

Red Wing Office

Staff Accountant

Smith Schafer and Associates, Ltd., a multi-office accounting & consulting firm, is seeking an experienced Staff Accountant to join our Red Wing, Minn. team. Candidate must be able to service accounting clients with minimal data entry and to provide some business consultation to clients, requiring strong QuickBooks knowledge.

Requirements:

  • Associates Degree in Accounting related field required;  Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Taxation or Business preferred
  • 3-5 years current accounting experience required;  Experience within a public accounting firm strongly preferred
    • Accounting experience includes but not limited to: accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger and financial reporting.
  • Knowledge of the regulatory requirements of processing payroll accounting transactions and payroll returns. Generates W-2's for clients.
  • General understanding of S-corp, business and individual tax and processing financial statements.
  • Knowledge of General Ledger and year-end adjustments for cash and accrual clients.
  • Knowledge of MS Office Suite Required – Word, Excel, Power Point
  • Extensive Knowledge of QuickBooks software required, QuickBooks Pro Advisor a plus
  • Knowledge of Engagement, ProSystems and Tax accounting software a plus
  • Must have experience handling multiple clients
  • Strong technical, analytical and organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Licensed CPA a plus

Abilities:

  • Identifies, presents and delivers accounting consultation services to clients utilizing company resources
  • Ensures that all client deliverables (financials, reports, tax filings, etc.) are completed in an accurate, professional and timely manner
  • Accurately processes client payroll.
  • Implements best practices, accounting and client service techniques
  • Possesses ability to perform several tasks concurrently with ease and professionalism
